Pray for Snow
Snowboarding begins with a turn. For Nicholas “Nico” Wolken, that foundational movement has become a lifelong study. The Swiss professional snowboarder, Patagonia ambassador and co-founder of KORUA Shapes is known for stripping the sport back to its essentials, finding freedom and expression in the relationship between rider, terrain and snow.
On Wednesday 29 July, Wolken joins Patagonia Brisbane for the first stop of the Human Powered Snow Tour. The evening pairs Simple as a Turn, a cinematic study of Wolken’s riding, with DIG, a snowboard film set in Alaska. A live Q&A will follow, opening up a wider conversation about snow culture, human-powered adventure and the landscapes that make both possible.
The tour supports Protect Our Winters Australia, a volunteer-driven movement uniting outdoor enthusiasts, athletes and industry to protect Australia’s alpine environments from climate change. Its work turns a shared love of winter into climate action, advocating for the snowfall, ecosystems and regional communities that depend on it.
Free, family friendly and open to the public, the event is an invitation to gather around the culture of snow and consider what it will take to keep winter in the forecast.
