A Culinary Holiday

This four-day epicurean adventure takes off on Thursday 28 July, with three events. What’s more, if you time it correctly, you could catch all three.

It’s game on at Mosconi with their six-course Barolo Dinner. An ode to Barolo matched to a set menu of game driven dishes from Head Chef Catherine Anders. Vegetarians look away…beef, quail, rabbit, wild boar and more will make a decorated appearance. Set-off to Gerard’s Bar if disco is life for a Lebanese Pizza Party where it’s not just about the Middle Eastern Disco but the manoushe and a matched drink. Or take a trip to Tippler’s Tap for five tasters of the finest brews and iconic bar nosh. Talk about that Thursday feeling!

Come Friday, it’s time for a Garden Party at The Green. This Middle Eastern feast is a one-off opportunity to spend a night in their lush oasis as dinner is not normally on The Green menu.

On Saturday, we enter the first of two champagne events with a Champagne Lunch at ESSA. Expect vintage champagne, and multiple courses Head Chef and co-owner Phil Marchant, who has carved out a compelling reputation for contemporary spins on classic techniques. Bubbles are just the beginning here.

Come Sunday, champagne features again, this time from the House of Taittinger to be poured alongside a carefully crafted set menu at Harveys from Brisbane’s master of refined, but approachable plates, PJ McMillian. This is one to settle into with Harveys front and centre for Market Day.

Oh Market Day, that most delightful and delicious outing for all ages, thanks to thirty-two pop-up restaurant and bar stalls, five live music stages and activities, spilling down and around James St, and forming the ultimate urban picnic.

From seafood to spritz and the sweetest of treats, options abound from 10AM to 6PM. It is initiation time for Gemelli and Bar Tano, with their first Market Day foray, while sAme sAme, Biánca, ESSA, The Green and SK Steak & Oyster, will finally make their mark after a false start with the JSFWT ‘At Home’ edition last year.

Staying at home however is out of the question in 2022. Plan your culinary itinerary now – Italy, Lebanon, champagne maisons, beer-haus’ and the most James St of all days – dining in the sunshine on James St as it transforms into one vast communal dining room. This will be one golden holiday to remember.
